.pdf files are downloading as .txt

.pdf files are downloading as .txt

This problem only occurs when ALL of the below are true:
  • the .pdf file being downloaded was saved with Adobe Acrobat version 1.5 and lower (this version is from Adobe Acrobat 5)
  • the computer being used is a Mac
  • the browser used to download the .pdf is Safari
Any of the below solutions would fix the problem:
  • edit the extension of the file by renaming it from [FileName].txt to [FileName].pdf. There will be a prompt asking if you are sure you would like to use the .pdf extension, approve it
  • resave and reupload the pdf with a newer Adobe Acrobat version, 1.6 and above.
  • use a windows computer
  • use another browser to download the .pdf file, such as google chrome
